The Lord’s Grace of Downey (LGD) was founded in 1972 as an independent, non-denominational church. Her roots were in El Monte, CA with a branch of Bethel Church in Indonesia. The church services were in the Dutch language. The Lord led the founding Pastor George J. Preijers, with a hand full of families, to start The Lord’s Grace Assembly in Downey. Downey is a central location for this little church made up from immigrants primarily from the Netherlands and Indonesia, hence an ethnic Dutch-Indonesian church.
In the mid seventies the church experienced a mighty move of the Holy Spirit. Many were added. Lives were changed. The building was enlarged.
Over the years as the founding members moved or passed away, the focus has become more that of a local church with a global vision. Whereas people drove to church from long distances, increasingly they are coming from the church’s neighborhood.
The church has become ethnically diverse and is attracting people from different types of backgrounds. God’s presence is experienced here as evidenced by the oneness, grace and love He brings to this local expression of His Body!
